  • Wonderful guidance

    I didn’t think i could do it consistently and reach the 50th day milestone but i found myself looking forward to the practice every night. There was something different with the guidance from Sam that just made sense and makes you come back to it every night The app works well, too. It’s simple, elegant and has an apple watch widget that works well, too. Looking forward to more content.

    I read Sam Harris’s book titled Waking Up and have proceeded to download this app. This app is an excellent tool to introduce and help guide anyone in starting to train the mind to approach every situation and thought you encounter in life from a novel (and I would argue better) perspective. Harris approaches meditation in a way that everyone will find beneficial, devoid of any specific religious undertones that only apply to adherents of specific faiths. This app provides both guided meditations and lessons on the benefits of meditation and other thoughts Harris has.

    Just what you would expect and hope for from Sam Harris. This experience is extremely well thought-out and executed. First of all, the app works really well. Second, it’s clearly and articulately laid out - easy to understand and navigate and also smartly done. Doesn’t cut any corners. Third, though he doesn’t try for humor - he’s a seriously serious guy - it’s good-natured and accessible (at least, for anyone with at least a moderately academic interest in the subject.) The content is a bit linear at the start, but allows you to go off in your own direction also. The structure and philosophy follow Sam’s mission clearly, and that’s very helpful to a novice meditator. A really impressive offering and a huge commitment / gift to Sam’s followers.

    The app is fantastic, the content amazing, my only complaint is related to the playback of downloaded material. I cannot seem to get downloaded lessons to play when I’m in airplane mode. The app gives me a message that I need network connection, even if I’ve downloaded the material.

    I’ve been meditating for a few years now - have come across many guided YouTube videos, tried several apps, you name it. The Waking Up course lays out a great foundation in the first couple weeks, while still adding new insights and value as you stick through the program - it’s great for beginners and long-time practitioners! I really love the lessons - they provide more “food for thought” and help keep you engaged with different concepts and activities to practice. Highly recommend for anyone new to meditation as well as those that are well-rehearsed. I guarantee you will find value with wherever you are at!
