  • E Edition CRASHES All Too Often

    By BeeMiester
I've been a subscriber of the Chicago Tribune for more than 45 years. I read both the print and e-version on a daily basis. I've also been involved in the IT world for close to 20 years as a business analyst and trainer. Did those in charge of this "enhancement" project even interact with the subscriber community for constructive feedback prior to the version implementation?

App for iPhone X has a white bar that blocks time and battery info towards top of app screen.. Please fix. I subscribe to the feed and would like the bare minimum fixed.
  • Crap App - Great Writing - Content Light - Too Many Blocking Adverts

    By Edge of the Borg
I'm a digital subscriber - I pay for the right to access content. The app is intuitive to navigate, and the Tribune has a deep stable of talented and interesting writers; from Steve Rosenbloom, David Haugh, to John Kass. The Trib has a nice balance of world, national, and local content; along with a balanced point of view - not all left and not all right. By and large you can tell where the columnists are coming from. That's not to say a few self-righteous, in-your-face, insulting articles don't get published; those authors don't seem to last too long. I like my news like Sgt. Friday, just the facts; and a point of view is nice - but the views need to encompass both sides. And to be honest, I like other points of view other than my own; it helps me think and try to understand the other side. My frustration and what holds me back from more stars is the lack of content. Update: Advert content is out of control. Advertising on a web page by itself is not bad; the old paper medium was based on a model of content and ads. What’s wrong with the Trib’s Implementation is that you can’t get to content until you get the advert blitz. In the paper medium you have a choice of whether to read an ad or not. Not so with the online version; article content starts being downloaded; then ads start coming. When the ads get loaded, content jumps around and you’re constantly scrolling to find the content. And just when you think the article is ready, boom a full-screen timed pop-up appears; which cannot be dismissed until the timer expires. Net-net, great paper, content, and writers; display advertising makes the app intolerable. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY; go somewhere else for Chicago news.
  • Catch-22

I updated the app as required. Then go into it, AND then get a message to update app to be able to continue to use it. WHAT THE? So I click on update app, and only option is open, since iPad knows it's been updated, but the app doesn't. So bottom line, I can't read the Trib anymore. Hello IT at Trib???
  • Subscription not working on one device

    By Jim B5664474394
So now the iPhone app doesn’t show I have a subscription, but my iPad is fine. I even checked to make sure I was charged, which I was 5 days ago for the month. This plus the overall bad app experience is disappointing, since I want to support local journalism but it’s hard to justify paying for an app this lackluster. Take a look at the Wall Street Journal app and copy how it works please.
  • Worst app ever

    By lfdon
Beyond annoying that for the amount of money a subscription to the Tribune costs that this is the best app they can come up with. The format is horrible and it crashes on a regular basis. Wish I could give it zero stars.
  • App needs to be scrapped

    By Xraylfh
Besides it not being as easy to use as the old app, it now crashes constantly.
  • Worst App Ever!

If there was a more difficult way to read the news online....not sure what that would be. Cancelling my home delivery as a result of this dumpster fire!
  • Please go back to e newspaper

    By ChaseTheRaysFan
This version of the app is not great you have to go to safari to get the e newspaper now which doesn’t have great controls and sometimes through safari when I try and download the newspaper I have issues getting all the pages. When it works, reading through safari is okay and a lot better than reading through iBooks, but it would be best to have an app for doing this rather than trying all that other stuff.
  • Content is rarely updated

    By Piesfrog
Why make an app and then not update the news content? Most of the news in the app is a week old. If you want anything recent you have to go to the web site. I wonder what the Tribune is thinking with this app???
