  • Love the App but crashes constantly

For the past few weeks Strava has been causing my phone to lock up so badly that the only mitigation is a hard reset. Seems to happen most often when you haven’t totally killed the app after each use.

I run and bike. There is no better app that also allows me to include and share my progress with my fellow lovers of running and biking.
  • Great Social Activity app with some features needing improvement

Great way to connect with friends, compare segment performance, and download routes. However I feel other apps do some non-social things better. For example: The app Ride with GPS creating routes feature is a fine tuned machine compared to Strava’s clunky beta route builder, even my Lezyne GPS comes with a better route builder online app. The ability to upload a GPX file not related to a Strava activity into the Strava route builder would be helpful. Overall Strava has become the Facebook of Running, Cycling and swimming with some good features, but it’s currently not the one and only app I use at the moment. I go back and forth on if the premium membership is with the cost, but I’ll likely renew.
  • Strava & Apple Watch Series 3 for the Win!

I would give this 9.5 stars 🌟 if i could. Update: some of the issues blamed on Strava are innate to the Apple Watch itself. After reading several developer articles, first I learned that Apple plans to improve usage of the GPS in the watch series 4. Let that sink in. Secondly, the lag related to mileage is related to the watch having trouble untethering from the phone (...and GPS issues). 🎧 For those having trouble with Apple Music playlists on your watch, this is also innate to the watch and not Strava. The workaround is one, do not play music on your iPhone while your watch is on. For some reason, the watch looks for the music on the phone if you decide to later run or workout w/o your phone. The option to switch back to the watch playlist during the workout disappears. Weird. Or, you can turn your blue tooth off to disconnect the watch from the phone prior to a run but this can can cause issues. In most instances I turn the watch off, wait until I am out of phone radius, turn the watch back on and ensure it works correctly by performing a quick warmup walk. I make sure it saves rather than state, “no movement detected” which means the GPS did not record any of the activity. _______________________ Update; series 3 and Strava is what the running world, using both hoped for all along! _______________________ The Apple Watch (Series 2 GPS) will fail you between 16-18 miles, maybe sooner. I used MapMyRun phone app with a distance of 18 miles, prior to using Strava. Ran the same distance on my Apple Watch, with Strava, no cell phone and was two miles short. Kept adding distance to make up the difference and managed to arrive at 18 (sometimes, between 17 a 18.7 miles). Never 19 or 20 miles. Even when adding additional mileage, I was still between 17-18 miles. I then purchased a GARMIN at the advice of STRAVA runners. However, I was still using the Apple Watch. Two weeks ago, while not paying attention but was so confused by the Apple Watch, I uploaded the GARMIN data. All the extra work appeared. Apparently, the Apple Watch was just not able to calculate the mileage. I was so shocked by the difference/distance, I deleted and re-added the data file, with the same results on both Strava and MapMyRun. Apparently, I was overcompensating for the inadequacies of the Apple Watch (series 2 GPS) to ensure I was running at least 18 miles. The GARMIN confirmed what i felt in my body as a runner; the miles ran and the distance calculated was not consistent. I ran my first calculated 20 miles, but my Apple Watch/ Strava still states 18 miles. Last week, it was 19 miles. The Apple Watch still stated 18. ——— This was not realized until I started running with both watches. I realized the Garmin and Apple Watch were on par util mile 16 (both distance and pace). Afterwards, the Apple Watch lost track. I am not sure if it was due to battery drain (Strava, heart rate and music running at the same time), but it lost two miles, consistently. When I raised the watch to check distance, after not hearing audio cues, alongside the GARMIN, the Apple Watch was slow and calculated 18 miles. Meanwhile the GAMIN was at about 20, which was correct and again confirmed through both Strava and MapMyRun.

This app is junk. I use it exclusively for biking as I use NRC for running. It gets stuck always pausing workouts and the resuming workout. Every time I go out it does this sh*+. I hate it. Don’t use.

It popped up a “please rate Strava” dialog despite me having the system setting for that turned off. Minus two stars. Then that very same dialog immediately crashed the whole phone and made it reboot. Minus the other two stars. Don’t abuse your users, Strava.
